Annapolis Area Information
(If you're interested in Annapolis, then you are probably interested in housing)

Annapolis was founded in 1649. Walk along the old brick sidewalks much as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson did in the days when Annapolis was the Capital of the United States (very briefly) and you can still see a city which looks remarkable similar to what the American Founding Fathers saw in their day. Architecturally, Annapolis boasts some of the finest 17th and 18th Century buildings in the country - including the residences of all four Maryland signers of the US Declaration of Independence.

Annapolis is the home of the United States Naval Academy, founded in 1845, and also the home of St. John's College, founded in 1696 as King William's School and the third oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.

During the 1700's Annapolis was a bustling seaport with vessels sailing in to trade from all over the world. Now it is known as America's Sailing Capital with extensive sailboat racing and cruising in its waters. It was a stopover for the Whitbread Round the World Race for the Volvo Trophy in 1998 and will be a stopover again for the Volvo Ocean Race in 2002.

Large racing events that have recently been hosted in Annapolis by the Annapolis Yacht Club include the 2000 Star Worlds Championship, the 1998 US Sailing Prince of Wales Match Race Championship, 1999 J/35 North Americans, 1999 J/30 North Americans, and the MORC Internationals.
